Review Study: Cannabis recommended for chronic pain and related conditions

This study reviewed 70 articles of published research to try to determine appropriate clinical guidelines for treating patients with chronic pain. It was published in the journal Cannabis & Cannabinoid Research in March 2023.

Sometimes more is definitely not better

The main takeaway from this research is probably that different patients and patient conditions responded very differently to low and high doses of cannabinoids. It was a review study published in March 2023 in the journal Molecules.

Several cannabinoids display toxic effects on colorectal polyps

The study used biopsies of polyps removed from 22 patients undergoing colonic polypectomies. Roughly half of the extracted polyps received single, isolated cannabinoids while the other half received a combination of several cannabinoids.

Non-cancer use of cannabis: what conditions and symptoms are most improved?

The greatest benefits were reported by those with neuropathic pain followed by Parkinson's Disease and MS (multiple sclerosis). The most improved symptoms were sleep and pain. Improvements were reported after 3 months, and they remained mostly stable for the following 27 months.

Cannabis and chronic non-malignant pain: A review study

This study provides a summary of the primary chronic pain studies used and their conclusions. One study found that most "patients preferred medical cannabis products with balanced THC: CBD ratios (37%) or high CBD formulations (46%) and only a minority (17%) preferring high THC products."

CBG and CBD show promise as topical antimicrobial agents

"Our results suggest that phytocannabinoids can be promising topical antimicrobial agents when searching for novel therapeutic candidates for different skin conditions." The study was published in January 2023 in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

Chronic disease patients show improved quality of life with cannabis

This study analyzed standardized assessments about chronic disease patients who tried medical cannabis in the UK and Channel Islands. It was published in the journal Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology in February 2023.

Terpene and Cannabinoid combinations and ratios make a difference

"Significant group differences in symptom relief were found across the chemovars".

Spoiler: Above average amounts of Myrcene and Terpinolene (between 0.5% and 1.0%) with THC levels between 15% and 25% were reported to be the most effective ("reliably stronger therapeutic effects").

Study: Cannabis users with IBD require less inpatient treatment

This retrospective study examined inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) inpatient data from Washington and Colorado to determine if cannabis legalization and use had any impact on their treatment.

Study: Chronic pain patients & doctors report medical cannabis is effective

This study included 187 chronic pain patients from three pain clinics in Germany who had received at least one prescription of medical cannabis in the past. It was published in January 2023 in the German language journal Der Schmerz.

Cannabis helps some with treatment-resistant PTSD

This study followed 14 treatment-resistant, chronic combat post-traumatic (PTSD) patients. They all remained symptomatic despite treatment with many lines of conventional treatment.

Medical cannabis can reduce opioid use for chronic pain patients

Authors' conclusion: "receiving MC [medical cannabis] for a longer duration was associated with reductions in opioid dosages, which may lower their risk of opioid-related morbidity and mortality."

Data: Legal cannabis isn't correlated with increased treatment for psychosis

This study was designed to "evaluate the association of state medical and recreational cannabis laws and commercialization with rates of psychosis-related health care utilization." It was published by the JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) Network in January 2023.

Study: Smoking cannabis alone doesn't reduce lung's ability, but tobacco does

Authors' quote: "Cannabis use does not appear to be related to lung function even after years of use."

Insomnia symptoms improve dramatically with CBD + THC oil

This was a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover study published in December 2022 in the Journal of Sleep Research. 29 patients with clinical insomnia were included.

Another study shows cannabinoid medicine is effective for treatment-resistant childhood epilepsy

The results echo many other studies: cannabinoid medicine can be VERY effective in children with epilepsy who have not responded to standard treatments. In fact, the evidence of cannabinoid medicine effectiveness for this condition is considered to be quite strong.

Cannabis & Migraines: A Review Study

Published in the journal Cureus in December 2022, this study collected and summarized published human studies and clinical trials between 2016 and 2022 that specifically looked at the effects of cannabis medicine on migraine headaches.

Clinical Trial: Full-spectrum CBD tinctures were effective for anxiety

Published in November 2022 in the journal Communications Medicine, this two stage, phase 2 clinical trial examined the effects of a CBD tincture on moderate to severe anxiety in 14 outpatients.
