CBGA helps reduce harm in kidney disease models

This study tested the effects of CBD and CBGA on reducing kidney damage and their anti-fibrosis effects in acute kidney disease mouse models. It was published in the journal Scientific Reports in April 2023.

Kidney issues and damage are fairly common in cancer patients undergoing some types of chemotherapy. This study used the chemotherapy drug Cisplatin to induce compromised kidney function in mice.

Quotes from the authors:

We find that CBGA, but not CBD, protects the kidney from cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity.

CBGA also strongly suppressed mRNA of inflammatory cytokines in cisplatin-induced nephropathy, whereas CBD treatment was only partially effective.

both CBGA and CBD treatment significantly reduced apoptosis through inhibition of caspase-3 activity.

In UUO kidneys [a model], both CBGA and CBD strongly reduced renal fibrosis.

we find that CBGA, but not CBD, has a potent inhibitory effect on the channel-kinase TRPM7

Their conclusion:

We conclude that CBGA and CBD possess reno-protective properties, with CBGA having a higher efficacy, likely due to its dual anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects
